Hiking to Damiano Chiesa Hut on Monte Altissimo

Hiking trail to the Damiano Chiesa Hut on Monte Altissimo of Nago from which you have a complete panoramic view of Lake Garda from the North to the South and the surrounding peaks.

Access to the starting point

By car : From the A22 highway choose exit Rovereto Sud and follow the directions for Torbole – Lake Garda North. As soon as you reach Nago, follow for Monte Baldo (turn on the left before the crosslight). Drive for 14km until you reach the starting point of the path n°601

Trail description

To get access to the path number 601, you need to drive along the road that from Nago leads to the Monte Altissimo. The paved road rises up and after about 20 minutes you reach a gate that indicates the starting point of the trail (altitude 1570mt).

The trail starts close to the parking area and after some curves it arrives to the junction with the trail 624. Here the trail continues towards Sella Sud - Monte Varagna that you can reach in about 10 minutes and then to Rifugio Damiano Chiesa. Along this part of the trail, there are several panoramic view points of Lake Garda and you can see the south of the lake. In one and a half hours  you reach the Hut at 2060mt altitude. Near the Hut you can visit a church (built in 1961 in honor of Don Cesare Viesi), some trenches of the Great War and an observatory of the surrounding mountains. The return is on the same path.
